Center member, Richard Carson, was recently honored by being named a Fellow of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERE) and a Fellow of the Association of Agricultural and Applied Economics (AAAE). Congratulations, Richard!
The Center for Environmental Economics co-sponsored (with the ISSF and IGCC) the Napa Workshop on Allocation of Global Common Property Resources, February 11-13, 2011, at the Bardessono Resort in Yountville, California. The workshop convened a number of leading economic theorists, international tuna fishery managers, and government officials involved in negotiating international fishery agreements to address approaches used in solving the allocation problem for common property resources and considering how they might apply to international agreements for managing global tuna fisheries. (posted: March 3, 2011) The Center for Environmental Economics co-sponsored (with the ISSF) the Bellagio Conference for Sustainable Tuna Fisheries, May 25-29, 2010, at the Rockefeller Foundation Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy. The Conference was held to develop an analysis of key issues that are vital for the management of tuna fisheries to ensure sustainable fish stocks and healthy ecosystems, while providing fair access to the fisheries for all participants, and retaining profitability of the industry. | The Center for Environmental Economics promotes research in environmental economics and provides a
community for scholars (faculty, graduate students, and others) interested in various topics on environmental economics. Research is organized by various Programs under the umbrella of the Center. A Working Paper series of research by Center members may be accessed here. NOTE: Working Paper list last updated March 12, 2011. During the academic year the Center hosts a weekly workshop at noon on Mondays for work at various stages of completion to be presented. While most presentations are by locals, visitors from other campuses also are invited from time to time to present their recent work. Graduate students are especially encouraged to present their research from initial idea to final product. Information about recent and upcoming workshops/seminars may be accessed here. Additionally, the Center co-sponsors campus-wide speakers on environmental economic topics. MembershipMembership in the Center is open to all members of the extended UCSD community (faculty, graduate students, affiliates, visitors) who are interestested in the activites of the Center. New members may join at any time, with revised membership rolls updated periodically. The current list of members is available here.Research ProgramsCurrent Programs of the Center are in Water Economics, Ocean Resources and the Global Commons, Methodology and Valuation, Climate Change Policy, Strategic Studies and the Management of Natural Resources, Energy, and Development and the Environment.
