There are many outside sources of funding available which support research in the area of environmental and resource economics. Use this list as a place to launch your search, but it is by no means exhaustive. Take it upon yourself to investigate alternative funding opportunities with federal and state agencies which are focused on your desired area of study. Additionally, non-profit policy institutes often have programs in place to fund graduate students. |

Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship Program
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Ernest F. Hollings (Hollings) scholarship program has a focus on increasing undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education
and foster multidisciplinary training opportunities (INCLUDING within the field of ECONOMICS).

LOCAL RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIESResearchers affiliated with the Center for Environmental Economics often require research assistance from both graduate and undergraduate students for their projects. Projects are often funded from federal, state, and private sources. Involvement in these projects may lead to dissertation and thesis research. Check here often for postings.If you are a UCSD undergraduate looking for some research experience in the area of Environmental Economics, please send email to cee@econ.ucsd.edu indicating your area of interest, availability, and other pertinent information about your background (major, year, GPA, etc.). Some research opportunities for undergraduates may be unfunded but available for academic credit as a 199 Directed Research course or through the Academic Internship Program. Please indicate in your email if you are looking for a paid or an unpaid research position. FEDERAL PROGRAMS |
The EPA has many funding opportunities for researches. Their Fellowship programs support both graduate and undergraduate students, as well as recent Ph.D. graduates.
EPA Fellowship Programs The USDA's Fellowship Award Program supports master's and/or doctoral degree research and postdoctorial training for research in several target areas including
1) animal and plant production;
The National Sea Grant College Program supports research focused on the "Environmental stewardship, long-term economic development and responsible use of America’s coastal, ocean and Great Lakes resources."
The program includes the California Sea Grant program, and both policy and research fellowship programs.

1 RAND
Rand offers several internship and fellowship opportunities. RAND has a long history of research in the areas of energy, the environment, and economic development. 2 Resources for the Future (RFF)RFF offers internships and fellowships for research in the areas of: 1) energy and climate; 2) human health; 3) the natural world; 4) regulating risks; and 5) transportation and urban planning. PPIC offers internships and fellowships for research focused on public policy issues affecting California.

1 Job Postings
The NOAA NMFS Knauss Fellowship Program maintains a "Job Posting" list serve for Marine focused positions. Although the positions on the list serve are typically full-time positions, it provides a great source of information for possible funding sources. Most positions are in the sciences, although social science opportunities are posted.
