The UCSD Economics Roundtable is organized by the UCSD Department of Economics in coordination with UCSD Extended Studies and Public Programs. The purpose of the Roundtable is to provide top business professionals and community leaders in the San Diego region with the opportunity to share the views and opinions of renowned experts in the fields of economics, finance, business and public policy. Members of the Roundtable share insights with their counterparts in the business community and with members of the UCSD faculty, continuing an important UCSD partnership tradition between the academic and business communities.

"Inside the California Economy"

Liam McGee
President, Bank of America, California

Where is California's economy heading? Liam McGee ought to know! As President of Bank of America, California, he leads the operations of the state's largest bank.

February 13th is a homecoming day of sorts for McGee. He was a University of San Diego undergraduate. We're happy to welcome him back to town, this time at UCSD.

At Bank of America, in addition to overseeing nearly 40,000 associates, McGee is responsible for nearly $200 billion in loans and deposits and a statewide delivery network that includes 960 banking centers and 5,000 ATM's.

McGee serves on the boards of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, USD and the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.

Where will we be when the lights go out? Severin Borenstein knows the answer! He'll share it with us on April 11th.

Dr. Borenstein is the E.T. Grether Professor of Business Administration and Public Policy at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the University of California Energy Institute. He received his A.B. from UC Berkeley in 1978 and Ph.D. from MIT in 1983.

Borenstein currently serves on the Board of Governors of the California Power Exchange and on the California Attorney General's Gasoline Price Task Force.

Dr. Meyer took office, under Chairman Alan Greenspan, as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System on June 20th, 1996. Prior to assuming office he was Professor of Economics at Washington University, St. Louis, and president of Laurence H. Meyer and Associates, economic consultants specializing in macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis.

Dr. Meyer is widely recognized as one of the nation's leading economic forecasters. He has been honored by Business Week as top forecaster of the year and by the prestigious Annual Forecast Award for most accurate forecaster on the panel for the Blue Chip Economic indicators.
